The
Seattle Human Services Coalition is
a multi-racial, multi-cultural group of human service providers
and concerned community members committed to helping Seattle-King
County residents meet their basic human needs. We
developed our first shared
agenda over 20 years ago in 1987.
Together,
we use what we've learned to shape public policy to help people
meet their basic human needs, including such issues as homelessness,
hunger, domestic violence, childcare, literacy, aging, disabilities,
sexual assault, health care, employment, racial equity, and child/
youth development.
Building
support for stable, dedicated, adequate funding for community health
and human services to strengthen communities throughout King County
is one of our primary goals. Learn more about this and get involved
through the King
County Alliance for Human Services
City
of Seattle policies also affect our communities,
so SHSC members educate public officials on these impacts and make
recommendations for how to invest in people first.
Institutional
Racism plays a role in meeting basic human needs. SHSC members have
developed the
Identifying Institutional
Racism (IDIR) Folio to help organizations find
and eliminate the manifestations of racism within their structures.
